The presidents of Russia and USA Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama in a telephone conversation called for the intensification of the process of political settlement of the Syrian conflict.

«The sides called for intensification of process of political settlement of the Syrian conflict and expressed support for starting in Geneva under UN auspices negotiations between the Syrian government and the opposition, following which the Syrians themselves should determine the future government», — said the press service of the President of the Russian Federation.

The withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria will serve as a strong signal to all conflicting parties and create conditions for a real peace process, stressed in the Kremlin.

The presidents of Russia and USA Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama during a telephone conversation stated that a joint initiative, supported by the resolution of the UN Security Council, allowed to drastically reduce the bloodshed in Syria.

The sides noted the importance of close coordination of efforts of representatives of Russia and the USA, including military, for the maintenance of the ceasefire, ensure humanitarian aid is blocked in settlements and effectively combat terrorist groups.
